Initially, the IRC protocol was used for Internet chat. But now it's possible through other protocols.
Chat software
To chat, there are many software such as Internet Explorer, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, Google Talk, Skype and Windows Live Messenger. Chat software has also grown significantly on mobile, and has its own users.
IRC
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) or Internet Relay Chat (Internet Relay Chat) is a form of instantaneous communication on the Internet. IRC is essentially designed for group discussions, and discussions are generally held in channels called Channels, as well as Person-to-person communication is possible by private messaging. IRC was created by Jarkko Oikarinen (nickname WiZ) in late August 1988 to replace the program called MUT.
Clients
Client software
Usually, users connect to the IRC network via an IRC client. Different clients are available for IRC, and are generally separated by the operating system. In Windows-based systems, mIRC is one of the most famous IRC clients.
The most popular clients for Mac OS X include Snak, Ircle, and Colloquy. There are also an IRC client for a number of browsers. Opera has an internal IRC client. Mozilla Firefox does not have an internal IRC client. Chatsilla, part of the Seamonkey Internet software suite, is also available for Firefox, which can be installed to access IRC in its browser.
mIRC and other similar clients may be unnecessary and complicated for newbie users. New users may prefer instant messaging clients such as Miranda IM, Pidgin and Trillian who support IRC. Web-based clients like Mibbit and Webirc also provide an easy way to access IRC.
Irssi can also refer to client applications with an IRC interface.
Bots
Robots are referred to clients who perform actions automatically.
File sharing
In the IRC protocol, there is no way to share files. But there is a possibility to send the file as P2P, which must be supported by IRC clients. IRC clients use the DCC protocol for this.
Many IRC clients support the DCC protocol. For this reason, it seems that file transfer is supported by the IRC protocol itself.
Yahoo! Messenger
Yahoo! Messenger or Yahoo Messenger! (Yahoo! Messenger) is a software that can be used by other users to chat online in any part of the world. Unlike email, conversations in these software are displayed immediately after submission.
Usually, Yahoo does not publish anything about the changes in the new versions of the software.
